We are organising a series of linguistic-based activities for members of the general public as part of the Dag van de Wetenschap, a free, Flanders-wide public science festival, to be held in Gent on 26 November 2023.
Our planned activities are specially designed to engage members of the general public of all ages in discussion about ideas from contemporary linguistics. This will include a live experiment where members of the public test their linguistic competence against the linguistic capability of an AI chatbot (ChatGPT), and an art-based activity for children which tests one’s linguistic ability to process sentences which include invented words, such as in the famous children’s poem the Jabberwocky.
